At EMI Mr. Horton was the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Automotive Division, as well as the head of the company’s new business acquisition function. Pontiac/GMC, Cadillac, and Saturn were added as accounts, and the quantitative assessment of client relations improved by a huge margin. Additionally, Mr. Horton is credited with the creation of the Century 21 Home Improvements licensing program, as well as executing some of the first aftermarket licensing deals ever executed by an automotive manufacturer.

Mr. Horton has an extensive background in automotive marketing, including motorsports and motorsports promotion. At Chrysler Corporation, he was instrumental in the growth and development of their “Direct Connection” (now “Mopar Performance” program). Among his many responsibilities at Monroe was the management of Monroe’s extensive racing program, ranging from SCCA to CART to NASCAR, and including sponsorships with organizations like Penske Racing and Saleen Autosport. For General Motors, Mr. Horton successfully grew the motorsports licensing program several-fold, working closely with sanctioning bodies and race teams to develop and expand the licensed properties available to the marketplace. Mr. Horton is himself an avid racing enthusiast and former racer.

Mr. Horton has an extensive background in market research and product development. He has pioneered the use of needs-based segmentation techniques, developed numerous attitude and usage studies, and executed leading edge brand extension research. New products introduced by Mr. Horton in his career now account for over $1 billion in retail volume.

Mr. Horton holds an MBA from the University of Michigan (1980) and a BBA from Georgia State University. He has been a guest lecturer at The University of North Carolina and at Florida International University. He is the creator of several pieces of intellectual property, including proprietary planning and product development processes.
